The Alliance has produced this Policy Preview to inform advocates, providers, public officials and community leaders about some of the important issues for that are likely to be debated in Congress this year. It is by no means a complete list, and other unforeseen events or proposals may emerge to further shape the discussion.

This year could mark a significant change in the direction of Federal policy on housing and homelessness. The new Congress has put affordable housing closer to the top of its agenda. The recent election brought new Members of Congress and new leaders of committees who could improve the direction of federal spending on important programs.

All of these factors combine to make 2007 one of the most challenging, exciting, and unpredictable years for housing and homelessness advocacy. With the momentum for around the nation growing, it is also one of the most important.
