Hot-Button Housing Issues for Voters and Candidates

by Richard W. Brown on September 8, 2008

in Advocacy Network

KnowledgePlex has published a special issue that provides an overview of the hot button housing issues for both voters and candidates. To read the full report click here.

In this election season, foreclosures and the broader economic tailspin fueled by housing and credit market woes have cast a spotlight on housing. However, foreclosures and mortgage markets are just one piece of the housing puzzle that candidates and voters should consider. A whole range of housing and community development issues are affecting Americans, their communities, and the nation’s overall economic and social health.

As Troy Anderson stated in the introduction: “While this election season has focused primarily on the economy, the war in Iraq, and who is best qualified to lead, there has been relatively little mention of one issue that has great bearing on many of the other crucial topics that will come up for debate – affordable housing.”

It is very refreshing to have a conversation about issues that matter to all of us who are concerned about ending homelessness and increasing the supply of affordable and supportive housing. We encourage you to read the report and discuss these issues.

The Special Report Contents includes:

The Drive to End Chronic Homelessness
Reconstructing the “Projects”
Affordable Rental Housing: The Sometimes Unwanted Neighbor
“Top Down” vs. “Bottom-Up” Community Revitalization
Casualties in the Drive for Homeownership
The Federal Housing and Community Development Budget
Key Organizations
