Mercer Alliance releases report on the most vulnerable
The report provides an estimate of how much housing needs to be available to address the needs those paying more than 30% of their income. The report estimates that need to be close to 19,000 housing units.
The Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness released a report on September 12, 2008 entitled Housing the Vulnerable in Mercer County. This combined with an op-ed in the Trenton Times by Herb Levine, the Executive Director and Israel Maldonado, Chairperson of the Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness, outlines the critical need for at least 19,000 housing units to meet needs of the cost-burned households.

The op-ed ends not only a positive note but one that reminds us why we must address this crisis: “We are a very resourceful group of people here in Mercer County. Our collective wealth puts us in the top 1.2 percent of counties in the United States. Let’s use it to everyone’s advantage.”
