Frequently Asked Questions about A.500/S.1783 rules

A.500/S.1783 is the most far-reaching housing bill enacted in New Jersey in many years, and includes a number of policy priorities that the Network has promoted to step up the production of affordable housing and ensure that more New Jerseyans can obtain decent homes they can afford.

Our friends at the Housing and Community Development Network of NJ, have released a Frequently Asked Questions about A.500/S.1783 and the Third Round rules. The goal of the FAQ is to help clarify the rules and provide helpful information about the new rules.

According to Diane Sterner, Executive Director of the Housing and Community Development Network they are “greatly concerned about the recent controversy regarding the effect of this legislation on New Jersey’s local governments, the Network is today issuing a new analysis for members of the community development sector, social justice advocates, other friends, legislators and the press, in the hope of both dispelling these myths and providing people with strong counter-arguments to the confusion and misinformation. ”

She also noted that the “FAQ deals specifically with some key changes we believe are needed to help New Jersey’s local governments better address their affordable housing obligations.”
