PERC Starts Construction

Holds Groundbreaking on November 13th

On November 13, 2009, Palisades Emergency Residence Corporation (PERC ) held a ground breaking ceremony, marking the start of construction of the PERC Supportive Housing Project. PERC was joined by members of the community, supporters of the organization, and representatives from Union City and Hudson County.

Among the speakers were County Executive Tom DeGise, Susan Mearns, Director of the Hudson County Division of Housing and Community Development, Carol Ann Wilson, Director of the Hudson County Department of Human Services, Kymberli Morris, President of PERC and Daniel A. Altilio, president of United Way of Hudson County.

The PERC SRO is an integral part of Hudson County’s dynamic and successful plan to end homelessness: Keys-to-Ending-Homelessness-in-Hudson-County.

When completed in the summer of 2010, the PERC Supportive Housing project will provide eight (8) permanent, affordable and supportive housing units for homeless individuals. Every unit will have its own kitchen and bathroom.

Asish Patel, Monarch’s senior associate, works with the housing production team. During the past 16 years Mr. Patel has worked on numerous acquisition, rehabilitation and new construction projects; consisting of condo units, single family homes, multi-family apartment buildings, scattered site projects, as well as commercial spaces. Primary responsibilities include site selection, coordination with the development team, funding applications, municipal reviews, construction monitoring, and general project coordination. Mr. Patel currently serves as Project Manager for all projects under development at Monarch Housing Associates. Mr. Patel graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, with a History minor, and a Masters’ degree in Management. Mr. Patel attended Pratt Institute’s Community and Economic Development Internship Program. Mr. Patel was a housing scholar in 1994, and has continued to work for Monarch from that point forward.
