Please Help Encourage Senator Lautenberg to Attend August 1st Hearing
On Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., Senator Menendez, the chair of the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs is holding a hearing entitled, “Streamlining and Strengthening HUD’s Rental Housing Assistance Programs.” This hearing is a critical step in congressional action on rental housing programs.
It is crucial that as many Senate housing staff members as possible attend the hearing in order to better understand the Section 8 program and issues surrounding reform legislation. We hope that you can help ensure your senators’ housing staff members attend the hearing.
- Please call your Senator Lautenberg’s office and ask to speak to the person who works on housing issues. You can click here for the housing staffer’s name and phone number for Senator Lautenberg.
- Explain the importance of Section 8 and other rental housing programs in your community and the need for reform and improvements to those programs. Encourage them to attend the August 1 briefing to learn more.
As background information, the House Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity has released discussion drafts on Section 8 reform legislation entitled the Affordable Housing and Self-Sufficiency Improvement Act (AHSSIA), though legislation has not moved beyond the Subcommittee.
