Christine SchanesOne of the misconceptions of the homeless is that they all drink or are drunks but we know that this is just not true. Last month, continued with her series of Homeless Myths on Huffington Post with a July 30, 2012 post, “Homeless Myth #24: They All Frequent Bars.”

In writing the article, she interviewed a number of people who have experienced to find out do the homeless really hang out in bars. While some indicated that they had frequented bars, other responses were from those who do not like bars to those who do not drink to those who have found themselves not welcome in bars.

Quoting Grace, a 53 year old woman who lives in her van, who said,

“The coffee shop now has a retired police officer to sit in front and keep out the ‘trolls,’ as he refers to homeless people. Most homeless people don’t drink in bars. [If they buy alcohol,] they get it from the corner liquor store and then get ticketed for public intoxication.”
