Alliance Shares Instruction on How to Ensure
Compliance with New Federal Guidelines

Re-Tooling Transitional Housing

Changes at the federal level are raising questions about the future of transitional housing. With the new regulations, are you concerned about your transitional housing program meeting its performance indicators, including reducing the length of stay? Is your transitional housing program aligned with , the federal plan to end homelessness? Are you considering changing or redesigning your transitional housing? Maybe even converting it to permanent housing?

The National Alliance to End Homelessness (the Alliance) focused on “Re-Tooling Your Transitional Housing Program” with a workshop at its annual national conference in July.

HUD funded transitional housing program funding can be reallocated or repurposed. The workshop presentations from HUD, the Alliance, and a local provider identified the steps to consider and provided tools for taking those steps. Transitional-housing providers who have retooled their programs share experiences in areas of planning, staffing, contracts, and working with their Boards. And now the presentations are available online.
