Homeless Veterans Bill Approved
Plan a site visit during the Congressional Recess
Prior to adjourning for summer recess, the House and Senate approved H.R. 1627, the Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012, and sent it to the President for his signature. The Senate passed the legislation on July 18, 2012.
The legislation would expand authorization of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program to $300 million, as well as reauthorize both the Grant and Per Diem (GPD) program and the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP), among other programs aimed at helping homeless veterans. The legislation would also require the Department of Veterans Affairs to study and improve the reimbursement method used in the GPD program.
Congress appears set in September to vote to postpone any final action on the budget until March 2013.
Congress is on recess until Monday, September 10, 2012 but likely will be out of session during much of October for campaigning. That makes now the ideal time to encourage your Members to take a tour! This is a good time to Join the National Site Visit Campaign.
