This summer Congress is voting on several bills that will increase funding that is crucial to our efforts to end homelessness. Among these are two of major significance:

An increase to $1.8 billion FY 2008 appropriation for HUD McKinney-Vento programs: This will be an  increase in HUD homeless funding from $1.441 billion in FY 2007 to $1.8 billion in FY 2008. This will help create 15,000 units of new while also ensuring reliable renewal funding for all rent/operating subsidies to permanent under Shelter + Care and Program.

Transform Health and Human Services into a full partner in ending chronic homelessness and meeting the services needs of all persons experiencing homelessness. Specifically this would add $80 million to the Administration’s budget for HHS in FY 2008 in SAMHSA’s Grants for the Benefit of Homeless Individuals (GBHI) program to pay for services in .

Without your participation we will not be able to archive these goals. Take the day and join us in DC so that we can achieve these goals and make a real difference in in NJ!

The reception is being sponsored by the Corporation for Supportive Housing, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Trenton, Monarch Housing Associates, and the Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness.
