HUD releases 2008 SuperNOFA

On May 7, 2008, Housing and Urban Development released the FY 2008 SuperNOFA for all programs except the Continuum of Care (CoC). The CoC will be released no earlier than July 1, 2008.

Section 811 applications are due on July 16, 2008

HUD’s 2008 SuperNOFA Release Is Imminent!

According to the Community Development Digest HUD sent details of its FY 2008 SuperNOFA to the Federal Register on April 25. It could take as long as a week for the government document of record to assemble the information for publication.

This will into include the Continuum of Care, which will not be released prior to July 1, 2008, but will include all of the other HUD programs except the Rural Housing and Economic Development Program that is being released separately on April 28, 2008. Click here to read that NOFA.

HUD Releases NOFA for Demonstration Program for Elderly Housing for Intergenerational Families

On Friday April 25, 2008, HUD will publish a NOFA for the Demonstration Program for Elderly Housing for Intergenerational Families. Click here for a copy of the NOFA. Only private nonprofit owners of a Section 202 project interested in applying for funding under this program should carefully review the detailed information listed in the NOFA.

The purpose of this program is to provide assistance for a demonstration program to expand the supply of intergenerational dwelling units for very lowincome grandparent(s) or relative(s) heads of households 62 years of age or older raising a child who is not more than 18 years of age or not more than 19 years of age and also attending school.The family must meet the age requirements to be eligible for an intergenerational dwelling unit.

Available Funds. Funding is available for $3.96 million to develop housing for intergenerational families. HUD anticipates awarding two to four project awards. The maximum amount of award is $2 million.

On March 19, 2008, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the General Section of HUD’s FY 2008 NOFAs for Discretionary Programs (General Section). The General Section describes the general requirements for applications to all of the SuperNOFA programs, approximately 34 different HUD funding opportunities for 2008, including McKinney-Vento/Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Programs (Supportive Housing Program, Shelter Plus Care, and Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation SRO Program), Section 811, and HOPWA. All potential applicants should review the General Section closely.

HUD Publishes General Section of 2008 NOFA

On March 19, 2008, HUD published in the Federal Register the General Section of the 2008 SuperNOFA. “This notice provides prospective applicants for HUD competitive funding with the opportunity to become familiar with the General Section of HUD’s FY2008 NOFAs, in advance of publication of any FY2008 NOFAs. HUD plans to publish its annual SuperNOFA in spring 2008.” The General Section contains detailed information on how to apply online. For all application other than the Continuum of Care it refers potential applicants to the “Notice of Opportunity to Register Early and other Important Information for Electronic Application Submission via Grants.gov” which was published on March 10th.

HUD issues Opportunity To Register Early and for Electronic Applications

On March 10, 2008, HUD issued a notice that provides instructions to potential applicants applying for funding under HUD’s grant programs available through Grants.gov.

This notice does not pertain to applicants who will be applying in Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 for Continuum of Care funds. HUD will publish a separate notice to address the receipt of Continuum of Care applications in FY2008. This notice provides information to help applicants better understand the registration and electronic submission process for HUD applications made available through Grants.gov.

Grants.gov is the federal portal for applicants to electronically find and apply for over 1,000 funding opportunities made available by 26 Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov offers the applicant community a common Web site where applicants can apply for a variety of federal assistance programs. To date, all 26 Federal grant-making agencies have posted their funding opportunities and electronic application packages to Grants.gov.
