Salem County’s United Way along with Freeholders, mayors, departmental staff, civic and faith based leaders had the opportunity to hear Phil Mangano of the Interagency Council on Homelessness on March 13, 2008. United Way CEO’s Rebecca Purchase of Salem County and Dan Altilio of Hudson County introduced Mr. Managano. Mr. Mnagano’s comments focused not only on the importance of implementing the Salem County Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness but on the importance of the three R’s: research, resources and results. On March 13, 2008, Phil Mangano of the Interagency Council on Homelessness visited Gloucester County. He spoke to more than seventy-five people at an event at the Gloucester County Library in Mullica Hill about the importance of developing a Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness. He stressed developing a business oriented plan with quantifiable results. The event was hosted by the United Way of Gloucester County as well as the County CEAS and HSAC committees. Freeholder Warren Wallace introduced Mr. Mangano. Mr. Mangano noted the success of other communities in developing plans and achieving declines in homelessness. He committed to returning to Gloucester County not only when the plan is completed but also when homelessness is ended.

Bergen’s County Executive, Freeholders, departmental staff, civic and faith based communities held a forum with Phil Mangano of the Interagency Council on Homelessness  on January 29, 2008.  Freeholder Chair Bernadette P. McPherson welcomed the participants. She announced that one key component of the Bergen County’s soon to be completed Ten Year Plan will be to have all of Bergen County’s departments work together in partnership to end homelessness. Mr. Mangano noted that as easy as these sounds it rarely happens without leadership by the freeholders and county executive. To listen to Mr. Mangano’s speech use the toolbars.
