Somerset County Hosts Summertime PHC event

Somerset County hosted their second Project Homeless Connect event for the year on June 18, 2008. From 8:30am - 2:00pm participants were able to access various services as well as receive food, clothing, toiletries. Held at the SHIP Drop In Center in Somerville, volunteers from throughout Somerset County greeted attendees with a smile while providing services, goods and engaging in conversation. The Somerset County Project Homeless Connect II was a great success serving as an example of engaging the community throughout the year.

PHC 2008 Summary is now online!

PHC 2008 Guests

The second annual Project Homeless Connect events in New Jersey were a great success. Held on January 29, 2008, Project Homeless Connect brought together communities and the homeless in an effort to reconnect the homeless to their communities and the communities to their neighbors. 2008 events saw dramatic increases in guests attending and volunteers. Diversified services were provided at events conducted at 37 sites across the state. New Jersey saw over 5,000 guest attend Project Homeless Connect with over 1,000 volunteers! Among the numerous services provided, highlights include flu shots, haircuts, legal services, veterans services, permanent housing referrals and many others. Thousands of articles of clothing, food, books, toiletries and other items were given away at the events. A special thanks goes out to those who worked tirelessly to plan these successful events as well as to the public and private sector volunteers and elected officials who showed their support for Project Homeless Connect around the state!

Sussex County Freeholders thank PIT and PHC Volunteers

On February 28, 2008, the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Sussex County - Harold J. Wirths. Freeholder Director, Glen Vetrano, Deputy Director, Phillip R. Crabb, Jeffrey M. Parrott and Susan M. Zellman - thanked each of the volunteers who helped make Project Homeless Connect and Point in Time a success. The event was attended by more forty (40) volunteers who were thanked for making the 2008 events a success. To view the list click here.

NEWTON - Just last week, as Stephen Gruchacz walked through the county’s social services office, he saw about 75 people in the waiting room, and “an awful lot of strollers.

A recent survey confirmed the impression of the administrator of the county Department of Health and Human Services: the number of homeless or at-risk families with young children is on the rise.
