Sussex County Freeholders thank PIT and PHC Volunteers

On February 28, 2008, the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Sussex County - Harold J. Wirths. Freeholder Director, Glen Vetrano, Deputy Director, Phillip R. Crabb, Jeffrey M. Parrott and Susan M. Zellman - thanked each of the volunteers who helped make and Point in Time a success. The event was attended by more forty (40) volunteers who were thanked for making the 2008 events a success. Number of children in county on the rise

NEWTON - Just last week, as Stephen Gruchacz walked through the county’s social services office, he saw about 75 people in the waiting room, and “an awful lot of strollers.

A recent survey confirmed the impression of the administrator of the county Department of Health and Human Services: the number of or at-risk families with young children is on the rise.

Plan aims to end homelessness in Sussex County

As we noted last month, has adopted their Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness. The New Jersey Herald published an article about the plan on January 27th entitled “Helping the homeless in Sussex County“. To read the full article click here. The article included this portion.

Betsy Towle, of the Division of Social Services, said the planning process came out of the Continuum of Care Concept introduced by to support communities in the effort to reduce . The plan evolved into a program to end the problem.

Sussex Freeholders endorse plan to end homelessness

acf86.jpgOn December 19, 2007, over sixty people attended an early morning meeting of the Sussex County Board of Freeholders where the Sussex County Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness was unanimously endorsed. Susan M. Zellman, the Freeholder Director, pictured on the right, expressed her support and gratitude for the hard work undertaken by the “ Continuum of Care, Comprehensive Emergency Systems (CEAS) Committee, and Sussex County Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC). All of these groups have adopted this plan, which will be used to guide future services planning and housing development in .”

Betsy Towle spoke about the Ten Year Plan’s “mission is to create safe, affordable, permanent housing for those individuals currently , including chronic individuals, and to ensure that these individuals receive flexible, comprehensive services to prevent a return to . As outlined in the Sussex County’s Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, this is accomplished through active collaboration of county and local government, mainstream service and housing providers and other community members combined with the utilization of available state and federal funding sources.”
