America’s Road Home Principles gains momentum but not in NJ

Only six have endorsed from NJ!

U.S. Conference of Mayors adds endorsement!

According to the Interagency Council on Homelessness the number of signatories has increased to “more than 280.” However, there have been no new signatories from New Jersey. Adoption of these principles is beneficial in many ways not the least of which is to receive funding from the America’s Road Home foundation. The America’s Road Home Statement of Principles and Actions commits Mayors and County officials to work together in a housing-focused strategy that gives special attention to the needs of veterans and involves partnership with business, philanthropy, and community and faith-based organizations.

At the June 2008 Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami, the nation’s mayors unanimously supported a resolution affirming America’s Road Home. Resolution No. 25 at the U.S. Conference of Mayors affirmed the America’s Road Home Statement of Principles and Actions and urged Mayors to become signatories and implementers of the Principles in their jurisdictions and committed the Conference of Mayors to advance the Principles with Presidential candidates.

Where God Left his Shoes homeless families will find help

On June 3, 2008, we published a post about the America’s Road Home, the first national effort to end . Founded by Richard E. Schaden, Chairman and founder of Quiznos and Consumer Capital Partners, along with his wife Cheryl, their fundraising will only be available to the 300+ communities that have signed the America’s Road Home Statement of Principles and Action established by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. Only six elected officials in New Jersey have endorsed this initiative.

Where God Left His Shoes, will be the focal point of a national campaign to end . Where God Left His Shoes, starring John Leguizamo, won the 2007 Humanitas Prize for Best Sundance Feature Film at the 33rd Humanitas Prize Awards ceremony.

The film will be released theatrically around the country in key markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Denver, generating ticket sales and donations that will go directly to resolving . The movie will also be offered for individual fundraising events to communities around the country who have adopted ten year plans to end homelessness. Following the theatrical release, the movie will be distributed internationally and on DVD and ultimately on broadcast television next year - with all profits from ticket and video sales and additional donations from viewers going directly to ARH to support the fight against .
