MORRISTOWN – Hundreds of disadvantaged men flooded the Market Street Mission to get a free pair of shoes and a foot exam by board-certified podiatrists Thursday night.
The event, which began at 5 p.m., was sponsored by Hearts to Soles and coordinated with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Goldberger of Tri-County Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Inc. in Morristown.
Soles4Souls, a Tennessee-based organization that donates new and used footwear to qualified charities, provided the shoes for those in need.
Mission volunteers and staff members aided Goldberger and his two-member staff, as they clipped toenails and tended to pesky calluses prior to handing over a clean pair of socks and donated footwear, which ranged from slightly broken-in work boots to shiny new tuxedo shoes.
Although the event was scheduled to run for two hours, due to high attendance it ran much longer.
