HUD Spending Bills Get Started, then Slow Down

Most HUD programs would get funding boosts or remain at 2007 levels in an FY08 spending bill approved June 11 by the House appropriations subcommittee covering Transportation and HUD. Details include FY08 funding levels of $4.18 billion for CDBG, $735 million for Section 202 elderly, $237 million for Section 811 disabled, $120 million for HOPE VI, and renewal of all current Section 8 vouchers. Congress has delayed further action on this bill pending resolution of questions about “earmarks.” The full Appropriations Committee will be considering the HUD funding bill for FY08. U.S. Representatives Steven Rothman (NJ-9) and Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) are the two members on the Appropriations Committee from New Jersey. The HUD budget chart can be viewed by clicking here.

Action needed: Call or write these NJ Congressional representatives to say “As Congress considers HUD funding for fiscal year 2008, I urge you to adequately fund all HUD programs.”
