This summer Congress is voting on several bills that will increase funding that is crucial to our efforts to end homelessness. Among these are two of major significance: An increase to $1.8 billion FY 2008 appropriation for HUD McKinney-Vento programs. This will help create 15,000 units of new supportive housing.
The second is to Transform Health and Human Services into a full partner in ending chronic homelessness and meeting the services needs of all persons experiencing homelessness. Specifically this would add $80 million to the Administration’s budget for HHS in FY 2008 in SAMHSA’s Grants for the Benefit of Homeless Individuals (GBHI) program to pay for services in supportive housing.
To reserve one of the few spaces left on the bus email Richard Brown or call him at 908-272-5363. Space is limited and on a first come basis. Please identify which location you will be meeting the bus.
