On Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 2:00 pm Eastern time, HUD’s Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs is sponsoring a teleconference, “Documenting Results: What Works in Employment Services for Homeless Persons.” The teleconference, moderated by ICF International and Advocates for Human Potential, will first describe employment practices that have been successful in helping homeless people obtain and retain jobs. The teleconference will then examine factors that have contributed to success and how successful programs document and quantify these factors.
The teleconference will help providers in the homeless assistance and workforce systems better understand how to collaborate on behalf of homeless job seekers, taking into account the systems respective philosophies, funding streams, and performance measurement standards. Included in the teleconference will be presentations by providers who have helped homeless people successfully obtain employment and housing. The teleconference will:
provide background information on why it is important to document results of employment for homeless people;
describe the homeless assistance system and the mainstream system of workforce development, both of which fund and deliver employment services for homeless people;
highlight basic principles and practices behind successful employment programs;
examine how homeless and mainstream systems define and document success; and
explore successful collaborations between the two systems.
Featured speakers are: John Rio, Advocates for Human Potential Dan Buck, St.PatrickCenter, St. Louis, MO Margaret Graham, Workforce Development Council of Seattle-KingCounty
Advance registration is not required; please follow the Live Meeting instructions below to join the teleconference.
