The House is home this week!

HUD Funding to Your Community is Critical
Call Congress Today!

We are in this together!Congress – or at least the members of the House of Representatives – is home this week. They are working from their offices in New Jersey meeting with constituents. They need to hear from all of us that the budget cuts proposed by the House Appropriations Committee and the US Senate Appropriations Transportation/HUD Sub-committee are unacceptable.

Funding for McKinney-Vento homeless assistance grants was level funded at $1.9 billion. This is the same level as approved by the House.

The HOME program was cut by 37.8% to $1 billion. CDBG was cut by 14.5% to $2.85 billion. These cuts would cost NJ almost $30 million. Sections 202 and 811 were also cut.

The chart below, from data provided by the NLIHC, highlights some of the more devastating cuts.

And while these proposed cuts are daunting, there is something that you can do.

Members of the House of Representatives are home this week. Call or meet with them in their district offices. Our Senators remain in Washington so it is best to reach them in DC!

If ever there was a time for grassroots organizing it is now. We need to visit, call, fax and email them to make sure that they hear from all of us that the budget cuts approved by both the House and Senate are unacceptable.

Call  your U.S. Senators and Representatives today and tell them how much HUD funding means to your community. You can click here to see how much your community receives in CDBG and Home funding. Let your elected officials know that your community can not afford to have that funding cut!
