Homeless Families Deserve More Than Charity

How can we prevent their homelessness in the first place?

KJ DellantoniaOn December 12, 2011, New York Times parenting blogger, KJ Dellantonia blogged the column, “Some Holiday Cheer for Homeless Families” and followed up on the recent 60 Minutes “Hard Times Generation” piece.

Her comments that while the outpouring of charity to help the families featured in the program is admirable and certainly greatly appreciated, with the 80,000 homeless families that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) counts across the country, there is a bigger picture. Why do so many families become homelessness? How can we prevent their homelessness in the first place?
