PHAs Convened to Address Ending Homelessness

CSH Partners with HUD and USICH

CSHLast month, the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness partnered to convene Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) around the important role that they can play in their local communities’ efforts to end homelessness.

USICH Executive Director Barbara Poppe, HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing Sandra Henriquez and HUD Acting Deputy Secretary Estelle Richman shared their expertise and insights with the group of about 100 representatives from PHAs and Continuums of Care (CoCs.)

The convening, held in Los Angeles during the National Alliance to End Homelessness’ Conference on Ending Family and Youth Homelessness, included discussion around areas for ending homelessness such as:

  • project-basing vouchers,
  • engaging service providers,
  • coordinating PHA and Continuum of Care activities, and
  • revising PHA Administrative plans and setting admissions preferences.

CSH is planning a second convening on the East Coast later this year. Are there PHAs in New Jersey that you work with who would be interested in learning more about how they can become further engaged in ending homelessness?

Several southern New Jersey continuums including Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic and Cumberland will be holding a breakfast with PHA’s on Thursday of this week. We will be reporting on that event.
