Last week, the National Alliance to End Homelessness (the Alliance) launched a campaign targeted towards increasing fiscal year (FY) 2013 for homeless programs within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) budget.
The VA has made great strides in recent years in reducing homelessness among veterans. In order to meet VA’s goal of ending veteran homelessness by 2015, we must have continued federal investment in key programs like the HUD-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) voucher program, the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, and the Grant and Per Diem program.
The President’s FY 2013 Budget Proposal recommended funding homeless programs within VA at $1.35 billion – which represents more than a 30 % increase to these programs!
The Alliance needs your help to make sure Congress continues to make ending veteran homelessness a priority. They are asking for as many letters as possible to our senators and representatives before Tuesday, March 20, 2012 urging them to support a funding increase for homeless veteran programs.
You can help by:
Emailing/faxing the staff members who work on veterans issues in your representatives’ and senators’ offices RIGHT AWAY! Click here for the website that has sample letters;
Ask colleagues, partners, and consumers to send letters, too; and
