Let NJ’s Delegation Know by Signing Your Organization to this Letter Today
Several statewide housing organizations have written and are circulating for signatures a letter to New Jersey and New York’s Congressional delegation.
This letter asks the Members of Congress serving affected areas to, in considering the $60 billion package proposed by President Obama for Superstorm Sandy relief, make decisions that ensure that everyone impacted by the storm is included in rebuilding.
The letter urges them to ensure that any Sandy relief bill meets the following principles:
Adhere to basic civil rights, labor, and environmental safeguards in existing federal law – the same civil rights and equity standards that apply to other federal programs.
Recognize the shortage in housing supply and take appropriate steps, including significant expansion of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit allocation to New York and New Jersey and additional vouchers to address that shortage.
Ensure that Community Development Block Grant funds actually serve lower-income people.
Ensure that replacement housing payments from all programs are based on replacement cost and not market value.
Please take a minute and join Monarch Housing Associates in signing on your organization to this letter. This is our opportunity to let Congress know what needs to be done to ensure that the housing needs of the very low income and homeless are met in the post-Sandy recovery and rebuilding.
