The webinar will cover where funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) currently stands in Congress, as well as what the next steps will be for the legislation through September. During the webinar, speakers will also discuss opportunities throughout September for stakeholders to advocate for increased funding levels for key programs like HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants.
When Congress returns from recess on September 9, they will have 9 legislative days to address federal funding legislation for fiscal year (FY) 2014 before the end of the fiscal year on September 30. With sequestration still negatively impacting many federal programs, and only a small number of funding bills passed by the full House and none in the Senate, there will be significant work to be done to finalize appropriations or come to some other agreement.
This webinar will help advocates understand where federal funding legislation stands for key HUD homeless assistance and low-income housing programs and what’s likely to happen through September. Policy staff from the Alliance and CSH will cover next steps for Congress and what messaging and advocacy activity will work best to have the biggest impact on funding levels for key programs.
