This technical assistance webinar will explore the many facets of the relationship of homelessness and the criminal justice system and show how policies within the criminal justice system may have an impact on homelessness. Presenters will discuss transitional planning prior to release for currently incarcerated persons and how this is key to the prevention of homelessness. It will explore the challenges persons with a criminal background face when applying or obtaining permanent housing and strategies that have made a difference.
Services can and do play an important role in reducing chronic homelessness. Services outreach models in jails and prisons will be discussed, including SSI and SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR). Their success in accessing disability benefits will be highlighted using the Nashville 100K Homes model as an example. This webinar will explore how agencies are using evaluation/focus groups with participants and Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) to successfully reduce chronic homelessness. The venue will also examine the core elements of permanent supportive housing and how to implement Permanent Supportive Housing with fidelity to the model.
