Join Monarch and Advocates Across the Country Contact Congress Today to Support Critical HUD Funding
Monarch Housing has sent letters to the entire NJ Congressional Delegation in support of the proposed $2.405 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2015 for HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless funding – a 14% increase over the final FY 2014 funding level.
Please join Monarch Housing and our national partner the National Alliance to End Homelessness in writing letters to Senators Booker and Menendez and your Representative to ask them to support a homeless funding level of $2.405 billion for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs.
What You Can Do:
Email letters to the housing staffers for our two Senators and your Representative today.
Click here for sample letter that you can personalize (You can attach the letter to your email.)
Ask your colleagues and clients to send letters, too!
Let Kate Kelly know when you send your email letters so that we can keep track of our combined effort. There is a national goal of 500 letters by the end of the month, so tracking is very important!
To have the greatest impact, we want everyone to send letters at the same time, from now through Monday, March 31, 2014. The House and Senate are about to begin writing, releasing, and voting on funding bills, so NOW is the time to start influencing our Members of Congress so we can make sure they prioritize funding for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs.
HPRP funds are long gone and sequestration cuts put a tremendous strain on our homeless assistance systems. We need further federal investment to keep homelessness from rising, to continue funding existing ESG and CoC activities, and to implement the HEARTH Act, with its focus on proven solutions like homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing, and permanent supportive housing.
Without an increase in homeless funding, our local communities may have to make cuts to Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and Continuum of Care (CoC) programs in the next Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA.)
Congress is likely to move very quickly in the coming weeks, so, we need your help to convince them to include a funding level of $2.405 billion for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs.
