Senate Deciding HUD Funding

$300 Million Increase in McKinney-Vento Critical

Senator MenendezThe Senate HUD funding subcommittee is expected to mark up and vote on its FY 2015 HUD funding bill on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

With flat funding proposed by the House, it is critically important to ensure that the Senate includes a $300 million increase for HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, as proposed by the Administration.

In order to avoid cuts in the next Notice Of Funding Availability (NOFA) and increase the capacity to address homelessness, particularly chronic homelessness, the Senate must include this increase.

Please take a few minutes today to email the housing staffers for Senators Booker and Menendez.

Congressional Housing Staffers

Please tell them that more money is needed for McKinney-Vento programs in the FY 2015 funding legislation. Have them urge their bosses to work with their colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to ensure that HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants receive a $300 million increase in FY 2015.

Senator Cory BookerNow, before these bills are written and passed, is the time to make an impact! Our Senators need to hear about the need for increased funding for McKinney. Tell them that the Senate’s HUD funding bill must be better than the House’s version.

Let Kate Kelly know what you hear back from your emails.
