Veterans Struggling with PovertyA new report offers data on the number of veterans struggling with poverty, unemployment, homelessness and related issues.

Released on Memorial Day, the report by the Half In Ten campaign and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans uses infographics to illustrate the number of veterans struggling with poverty and related issues, including homelessness, hunger and unemployment.

Veterans HomelessnessKey findings include:

  • 1.4 million veterans live in poverty,
  • the unemployment rate among veterans 18-24 is 21.4%,
  • 900,00 veterans live in households that rely on food stamps (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and
  • Although homelessness among veterans is decreasing, almost 60,000 veterans were homeless in 2013.
