Hill Update: Continuing Resolution Likely Call to Increase McKinney-Vento Funding
Following their return yesterday from their August recess, congressional leaders are expected to resume negotiating fiscal year (FY) 2015 funding.
To date, no funding bills, including the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (T-HUD) bills, have passed through both chambers of Congress.
In the coming weeks, Congress is expected to negotiate an FY 2015 Continuing Resolution (CR), which is a stopgap funding measure that would keep the government running beyond the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2014.
Congress is back from its August recess for a few weeks in September and we need to use this time to blitz congressional offices with calls about the importance of providing a $300 million increase for McKinney programs in FY 2015.
Call your Members’ offices (in both the House and Senate) and urge them to contact the Chair or Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee and tell them that providing $2.406 billion for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program in FY 2015 is a high priority.
