Funding for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance and Section 811 are essential to help communities create and maintain supportive housing. Supportive housing is a cost-effective intervention that combines affordable rental housing with support services to help the most vulnerable families.
Without increased investment in these programs, communities will be unable to end homelessness, address the housing needs of the lowest-income households or create integrated housing for persons with disabilities. A full year Continuing Resolution at FY14 levels does not include adequate resources to end chronic homelessness or to ensure that all existing vouchers are renewed.
We hope that New Jersey’s Congressional delegation work with the Appropriations Committee leadership to pass a full FY15 THUD appropriations bill.
