Christie Level Funds Housing Again

FY 2016 Budget Proposal

Governor ChristieOn February 24, 2015, Governor Chris Christie delivered has annual budget address. The budget summary addresses housing assistance beginning on page 20.

Despite rising housing costs, the budget level funds housing with no dollars for housing production or foreclosure.

Please note the following:

  • $2 million will be dedicated to provide housing vouchers to approximately 200 individuals receiving support services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities, which is new funding.
  • The budget maintains the $17.1 million of combined State and Federal funding for the Division of Family Development’s Social Services for the Homeless Program, which provides assistance to New Jersey residents at risk of homelessness but are ineligible for WorkFirst New Jersey or Supplemental Security Income benefits.
  • $42 million in combined State and dedicated funding for the State Rental Assistance Program will continue.
  • $9 million in combine State and dedicated fund for homelessness prevention and emergency shelters also continue.

The Housing and Community Development Network of NJ (HCDNNJ) is in the process of reviewing the governor’s proposed budget and will provide more information as it becomes available.
