Still time to Sign on to Lift Sequester Caps
Deadline Extended to September 1st
The non-defense discretionary (NDD) Campaign extended the deadline to Tuesday, September 1, 2105 for organizations to sign the NDD United letter calling for sequestration relief.
The letter will be distributed to all Members of Congress on Thursday, September 10, 2015 in conjunction with our Raise the Caps Day of Action! A final copy of the letter will be posted online and sent to all signers.
Almost 75 New Jersey organizations, have signed on in support of this letter but we need others to join this letter.
Last week, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced that the House non-defense appropriations bills if enacted would trigger the enforcement sequester and an across the board cut equal to $1.8 billion across all NDD programs. This would mean additional cuts to programs already severely underfunded in the House bills due to the sequestered spending caps.
The only way to avoid these cuts, and to allow for stronger investments in NDD overall, is for Congress and the President to reach a budget agreement that ends sequestration and raises the caps on discretionary spending to pre-sequestration levels.
To date, more than 2,000 organizations across the country, including almost 75 New Jersey organizations, have signed on in support of this letter but we need other to join this letter.
As a reminder, all national, state, and local organizations are invited to sign, so please forward this message to others that you think may be interested in amplifying the message that these cuts are unsustainable and unacceptable.
We look forward to continuing to work with the community to strengthen these critical programs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out by email.
