Breaking the Cycle of Incarceration & Homelessness for Veterans

Half of VA Assisted Homeless Involved in Justice System

Breaking the Cycle of Incarceration & Homelessness for VeteransThe U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) has released a new brief describing emerging strategies for intercepting and assisting Veterans involved with the criminal justice system.

Like other single individuals experiencing homelessness, there is a high prevalence of criminal justice system- involvement among Veterans experiencing homelessness.

About one-half of all Veterans experiencing homelessness who have participated in VA homeless assistance programs are involved in the justice system.

On July 8, 2015, the USICH hosted a webinar on the same topic that featured speakers from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Justice Programs and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
