Fight Stigma Walk/Run a Success
300 People Walked and Ran to Fight Stigma
More than 300 people participated in the Fight Stigma Walk on Saturday November 7th. The event was co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in NJ (MHANJ) and Monarch Housing Associates.
Today, we unite in a shared goal – to fight against the negative perceptions of mental illness and addiction, working toward increasing acceptance.
Said Carolyn Beauchamp, President and CEO of MHANJ.
NJ Counts 2015 found that 42% of homeless persons reported having some type of disability. The most common disabilities included mental health issues and substance abuse disorders. Among disabled adults, 56% reported mental health issues making it the most prevalent disability.
The walk was held this year at Oak Ridge Park in Clark NJ.
