Network Launches Community Scholars ProgramThe Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) is now accepting applications for its Community Scholars Program.

The Network is accepting applications for participants in and sponsor organizations for the Community Scholars program.

The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. BB& T Bank is generously supporting this program.

The application deadline is Friday April 1, 2016.

Dates for the Summer Session 2016 are:

  • Sponsor Applications are due Tuesday, March 22, 2016
  • Scholar Applications are due Tuesday, March 22, 2016
  • Matches will be complete by Wednesday, April 20, 2016
  • The program begins on Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Based on the previously successful Housing Scholars program model, the Network will recruit individuals interested in the Community Development field and match them with its members throughout New Jersey.

The program will build capacity within community organizations by providing a mechanism to attract the best and brightest students from Rutgers, Rowen, Kean, and other institutions to gain real-world, hands-on experience in the field.

Scholars will learn critical skills including planning, communications, fiscal management, problem-solving, and time management while working within one of the following disciplines:

  • Project Planning
  • Construction Management
  • Public Policy and Advocacy
  • Supportive and Special Needs Housing
  • Client Support Programs
  • Fund Development
  • General or Project Finance
  • Human Resources

Students will receive a $3,000 stipend for the full-time 10-week program. Sponsors will be responsible for providing the Network with the $3,000 stipend upon signing the contract.
