Wellness Recovery Action Plans for Individuals with Mental Illness and Substance Abuse
The Mental Health Association of New Jersey (MHANJ) has announced two newly trained Advanced Level WRAP® (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) Facilitator trainings. (These facilitators are the only ones in the state of New Jersey.) WRAP is listed in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.
The key to ensuring that recipients of behavioral health services receive the full benefit of Wellness and Recovery, WRAP is for the leaders and participants in behavioral health organizations to better understand and incorporate the ethics, values, and practices that Mary Ellen Copeland, of the Copeland Center, and the grassroots practitioners of WRAP have established.
When WRAP is provided to people using the evidenced based model, it can be a life changing experience for those who are living with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
WRAP is also highly adaptable to use with physical illnesses, challenging life events, adjusting to big changes, or achieving goals. In fact, WRAP is for anyone who wants to achieve higher levels of wellness and recovery.
The first 5 day WRAP Facilitator Training is scheduled for August 8-12, 2016 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy.
The cost to participate is $800 per person (or $1400 for two people from the same organization/agency) which includes lunch for the 5 days and the WRAP facilitator’s manual. (In comparison, the cost to attend this training directly through the Copeland Center is $1400 per person.)
Matthew Federici, the Executive Director of the Copeland Center, will co-facilitate and mentor our facilitators during this training.
There is an application process to qualify for this training. The WRAP Facilitator Training is a follow up for people who have completed Seminar I WRAP Courses.
A Seminar I course is one in which you participated in writing your own WRAP. If you have not completed this course, MHANJ is holding a 2-day seminar in Union, NJ on June 23-34, 2016.
Participants who are accepted into this facilitator training course will be expected to participate in interactive learning activities and demonstrate their own experience with using WRAP in their lives.
The most effective way to implement Wellness Recovery into your program and services is to have two properly trained facilitators provide WRAP in a group setting.
Taking this training is also the most effective way to assist others one on one with developing a WRAP.
