High Street/Alpha Drive Supportive Housing Opens

Twelve New Supportive Housing Apartments for Disabled and Homeless

On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, High Street Heights and Alpha Drive LLC will celebrate a ribbon cutting event in Newark for their recently completed supportive housing.

The development includes 12 new units of permanent supportive housing for chronically disabled and homeless individuals in Essex County.

Both sites will assist the will contribute to the City of Newark and Essex County to fulfill their plan to end homelessness.

The event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 577-579 and 581-583 Martin Luther King Boulevard in the Central Ward of Newark.

The project site is located within walking distance to:

  • Penn Station,
  • Other public transportation, the downtown shopping area,
  • Lincoln Park,
  • UMDNJ Wellness Center and over ten primary and secondary schools,
  • Essex County College,
  • The Newark campus of Rutgers University,
  • N.J University of Medicine and Dentistry and
  • N.J Institute of Technology.

The property is owned by Carolyn and Terry Whigham and was developed in partnership with the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity.

Monarch Housing Associates was the consultant to the Whighams on this important supportive housing development.

Parking is available at Whigham’s Funeral Home at 580 Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and street parking is also available.
