Congressional Management Foundation Hosts Citizen-Centric Advocacy to Influence Congress
On June 22 and 23, 2017, the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) is hosting two free webinars on strategies to influence congress.
Policy, advocacy, and communications professionals working for organizations involved with NDD United are strongly encouraged to participate in the webinars. NDD stands for non-defense discretionary programs.
We encourage everyone to participate in both webinars and learn how to influence congress.
This new study collectively provides unique insights and identify proven strategies that the NDD community should be using to influence congressional decisions. The study is the result of two bodies of research conducted over 10 years.
Bradford Fitch, President & CEO for the Congressional Management Foundation; and Seth Turner, Director of Citizen Engagement will present the webinar.
The webinars will also touch on exclusive research, resources, and benefits provided only to CMF Partners in its Partnership for a More Perfect Union.
CMF provides Partners with exclusive research not publicly released. If you would like more information about the Partnership, click here.
NDD United was established in response to the Budget Control Act of 2011, which placed austere caps on federal spending for all discretionary programs through 2021 and set the stage for sequestration starting in 2013.
With so much at stake for so many programs, NDD United brought together for the first-time hundreds of stakeholders from across the nondefense discretionary (NDD) sectors to call for a balanced approach to deficit reduction.
Following the release of the report, Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Paul Ryan reached an agreement to partially and temporarily patch sequestration under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. As a result of these efforts The Hill Named NDD United one of their Top 10 Lobbying Victories in 2013.
This deal granted some partial and temporary sequestration relief, but the full impact of the cuts returns in 2016 as the Ryan-Murray deal expires and so, NDD United is once again joining forces with supporters to call for an end to sequestration.
Citizen trust in an effective and responsive Congress is essential to democracy. The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) advances this goal by working directly with Members of Congress and staff to enhance their operations and interactions with constituents. CMF works directly with citizen groups to educate them on how Congress works, giving constituents a stronger voice in policy outcomes.
The results are:
a Congress more accountable, transparent, and effective; and
an informed citizenry with greater trust in their democratic institutions.
