The Network congratulates everyone who called and e-mailed their public officials to make this milestone possible.
Network Board President and Morris Habitat for Humanity Chief Executive Officer Blair Schleicher Bravo said, “To turn our economy around, we are urging NJ leaders, including current officials and others running to serve, to sign on to Build a Thriving NJ. This annual investment will help recharge the economy by making sure businesses can locate in places where workers can afford to live. If we can’t afford to live here, we can’t get our economy back on track.”
Build a Thriving NJ asks the next leaders of New Jersey to commit $600 million annually to create homes we can afford.
Network President and CEO Staci Berger added, “We thank all the elected officials, organizations, and individuals who signed on in support of Build a Thriving NJ,” said Staci Berger, president and chief executive officer of the Housing and Community Development Network of NJ. “This is a plan that creates jobs, boosts economic activity, and lifts every NJ resident so that our state can thrive and be a place we can all afford to call home.”
The 2008 recession, the foreclosure crisis and Superstorm Sandy took an enormous toll on the communities in which our members work. Everyone around New Jersey has felt the impact – from our infrastructure to our businesses to the neighborhoods where we work and live. We are still recovering and our economy needs to get back on track – so that our residents have jobs that support vibrant opportunities in every corner of our state.
Build a Thriving NJ provides a simple solution: start with the basics of making sure everyone can afford to call New Jersey home. If we build homes we can afford, and revitalize the communities where we work and live, we can Build a Thriving New Jersey. Our families, friends and neighbors are the heart of our state and the backbone of our economy. If we can’t afford to live here, we can’t get our economy back on track.
