Information about how to register for the event will follow soon.
We expect a group of 300 New Jerseyans to travel to Washington DC on July 25. Bus transportation from six locations across the state will be available to bring people down to DC the morning of July 25 and back to New Jersey that afternoon. New Jersey’s two U.S. Senators and 12 Members of the House of Representatives will be invited to attend the Congressional Reception, hear from constituents impacted by homelessness and address the audience.
The themes of this summer’s Congressional Reception will once again be “No Cuts to Housing” and “Opportunity Starts at Home.” Cuts are hurting our communities that serve low-income families, the homeless and those with special needs. This summer’s Congressional Reception builds on the success of the 2016 and 2017 New Jersey Congressional Reception.
The impact of sequestration and budget cuts has reduced the budget of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as well as other domestic programs. The lack of affordable homes and the resources needed to maintain existing public housing has created an affordable housing state of emergency in NJ.
You can help us make the July 25, 2018 Congressional Reception a success!
Second, let us know if you or someone you know would be interested in speaking to their elected official about the impact homelessness has had on your life. Please email Kate Kelly with your impact speaker recommendations.
