Now Is Not the Time To Cut Housing Benefits It is the Time to Fight Increased Rents, Imposed Work Requirements, and Time Limits
The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) and partner organizations invite advocates from across the country to join them for a webinar to learn about new proposals from the Trump administration and Congress. The webinar will be held on May 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. These new proposals would cut housing benefits by increasing rents, imposing work requirements, and setting de-facto time limits for HUD-assisted households.
Panelists on the webinar will also discuss how advocates can effectively communicate with policymakers and the public about the negative impacts of such reforms and alternative strategies to move families toward economic self-sufficiency.
Speakers on the webinar include:
- Elayne Weiss, National Low Income Housing Coalition
- Will Fischer, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
- Deborah Thrope, National Housing Law Project
- Stanley Hardy, New York City Housing Authority
And you can also take action now. Congress needs to hear from you! Join more than 1,100 organizations across the country by signing this national letter in opposition to any attempt to cut housing benefits for America’s struggling families.
It is now more than ever more necessary that there are no cuts made to federal housing programs. On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, advocates from New Jersey will travel to Washington DC for the annual Congressional Reception with the messages “No Cuts to Housing” and “Opportunity Starts at Home.” Cuts are hurting our communities that serve low-income families, the homeless and those with special needs.
On the morning of July 25, 2018, buses will be leaving from various locations across New Jersey and traveling to the Congressional Reception which will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Dirksen Senate Auditorium. Speakers impacted by homelessness will address their elected officials in Washington who will be invited to join their constituents at the Congressional Reception.
