Monarch’s Summer Interns Share Their Congressional Reception Reflections

The Importance of Affordable Homes and Their Role in Stable Lives and Better Health and Communities

Hi! We are Jillian Lapidus and Mitch Kelly, the Congressional Reception summer interns on the Public Policy Team at Monarch Housing Associates. During our time at Monarch Housing this summer, we worked closely with Kate Kelly, assisting in the planning of the 2019 Congressional Reception in Washington, DC.

This has been an incredible summer. Thank you to the entire staff at Monarch Housing Associates and everyone else who I collaborated with throughout the past twelve weeks. I enjoyed so many projects I worked on, but my favorite project was working closely with this year’s Congressional Reception impact speakers, who are an inspiring group of people and advocates.

Working with the speakers, partners and attendees has reinforced my passion for affordable housing. Every person deserves a home. Having safe and affordable housing leads to stable lives, better health and happier communities.

This summer has been a wonderful experience and I am so thankful to the Monarch Housing Associates team for this great opportunity! Everyone of Monarch Housing Associates has been so sweet and supportive, making the past two and a half months a great learning experience. I learned about the necessity of having an affordable home and more about public policy that will be helpful for many years to come.

Out of everything I have worked on over the summer, my favorite part of my internship was creating content to highlight the importance of affordable housing and the significance of the 2019 Congressional Reception.

As we prepare to head back to school for our senior year of college, we are so appreciative to have had the opportunity to work on the Congressional Reception, a meaningful event to help end homelessness in New Jersey and across the country.

From both of us, thank you again!
