The BIPOC Developers’ Collaborative
Our Mission
We envision a diverse affordable housing space in New Jersey that is representative and inclusive of developers and communities of color.
Our History
The BIPOC Developers’ Collaborative was organized in early 2023.
Recognizing the underrepresentation of BIPOC individuals, especially Black and Hispanic individuals, in the developers dominant in New Jersey’s affordable housing space, Monarch Housing Associates and other advocates sought to pull together a group of stakeholders to identify the obstacles developers of color in particular face in the field.
For over a year, the Collaborative has gathered monthly to discuss the current landscape of affordable housing and develop strategies and recommendations for providing the support developers of color often require to proceed in the field at the same pace as their white counterparts.
Our Membership
Our founding members consist of developers of color of various experience levels, funders, and other partners in the affordable housing and housing justice space. As we continue our work, we aim to expand our membership. All who are dedicated to the Collaborative’s mission–including developers ranging from novice to seasoned, funders, members of the development team, advocates, and all other partners–are welcome to join in our work.
